Adidas Olympics & Disney Collections

This article was first published on The Vegetarian Experience on 22nd July 2011

Last Saturday, eldest and I braved the torrential rain to go to the Adidas showrooms in London.  Housed in Covent Garden, next to my old haunt, Pineapple Dance Studios, it felt as if I had travelled back in time, walking down Langley Street, except this time I wasn't dressed head to toe in dance gear, I was accompanied by a small child and off to view the new Adidas/Disney Autumn Winter 2011 collection .

We arrived and were greeted by the staff who were really lovely and chatty. Adidas had provided lots of fab activities for the kids whilst the adults perused the collection. Eldest had her faced painted as a princess, was given numerous balloon animals, played bowling, watched a short film about the olympic mascots, ate lots of food and generally had a fantastic time whilst I looked at the new kids Disney and Olympics collections and reminisced about my obsession with adidas shell toes (which I am still obsessed with!).

The new Adidas/Disney collection is being released to celebrate the launch of Disney's Cars 2, in cinemas from 22nd July. Mostly targeted at boys, this collection featuring shoes, clothes and accessories, includes pieces inspired by new Cars characters Finn McMissile, a secret agent from the UK; Francesco Bernoulli, Lightning McQueen’s top rival from Italy; and Shu Todoroki, a race car favourite from Tokyo. Star race car Lightning McQueen and the incomparable tow truck Mater from the original Cars movie also features as part of the collection. There is a huge range of shoes, as well as some cool t-shirts and trousers to accompany them.

Not to be outdone by the boys, Adidas have also produced a Disney girls collection including Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck and of course Eldest's favourite - Disney Princesses. The Disney Princess range, featuring Ariel, Cinderella and Snow White who have a different type of shoe each is fantastic. I thought the Ariel ones with the shell tongues were especially cute!. Eldest is massively into princesses so imagine her annoyance when smallest one was given princess trainers instead of her :-)

There is also a great Adidas Originals clothing collection, celebrating staying true to the original brand - the junior version of what we all wore growing up!

There were more Disney inspired pieces too. Mickey Mouse, Minnie, Donald Duck and also Little Bo Peep and other Toy Story characters.

In addition to the fantastic and highly desirable Disney range, Adidas is also the Official Sportswear Partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and will design and produce official kit and apparel for Team GB/ParalympicsGB and London 2012 officials, as well as providing leisure apparel for retail purchase.

I viewed two of the Autumn/Winter Olympic ranges - the Rainbow range for kids aged 3-6 and the Mascot range for 8 - 12 year olds. The Rainbow range features colourful 3-stripe pieces which highlight the rainbow featured in the Wenlock and Mandeville short animated films. I think this range is absolutely lovely and so eye-catching and appealing to little ones.

The Mascot Champion collection will appeal to older children (aged 8-12 years) with classic, sporty elements featuring the London 2012 Olympic Games logo and mascot Wenlock.

I wonder whether they do adult versions of the same range as the clothes were fantastic. Eldest ear marked this pink jumper from the rainbow collection as being particularly lovely, with the version in white a close second. I absolutely love the colours and also the rainbow logo design.  Very trendy, stylish and fun at the same time!

Eldest also had the opportunity to meet Wenlock and Mandeville who are the official London 2012 mascots: Wenlock is the Olympic mascot and Mandeville is the Paralympic mascot. She excitedly hugged them when they came in and also managed to have her picture taken with them.

Since we didn't manage to secure tickets to the Olympics, it was nice to be able to view the official collection and meet the official mascots as it made it feel more real and like we had somehow had a small taste of the Olympics, even if we won't be there in person!

Thanks to Adidas for a fab day.The staff were all very lovely and accomodating. They were also very knowledgeable about the products and really had a pasison for the brand. Adidas also provided a great day out for the children. Eldest had so much fun and didn't want to leave!

The collections featured are available from the end of July.  Prices start at £10.  For Adidas stockist information please contact Customer Care on 0870 240 4204.
